o Achieving health goals using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and
Motivational Interviewing (MI) approaches. Motivational Interviewing is a method of
eliciting behavior change by helping you to increase your motivation to change by
exploring and resolving ambivalence. This type of therapy involves regular goal setting
and some home practice assignments.
o Management of and coping with current health-related concerns or chronic illness. Our
work in this area may include mindfulness-based therapy and practice (in session and
home) as well as emphasis on employing community/group support and resources.
o Concerns of caregivers for individuals with chronic medical problems and/or dementia,
including end-of- life issues. Our work in this area may include specific strategies for
communicating with your loved one, as well as emphasis on employing
community/group support and resources.
o Individual therapy with adults for depression and anxiety using a Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT) approach (typically 8-12 visits). The therapy involves setting an agenda
for each session and suggesting home practice assignments, and may involve use of
relaxation training and stress reduction techniques.
o LGBT issues related to social stress and discrimination, coming out, family
acceptance, and relationship concerns (including same-sex couples counseling).
o Bariatric Pre-Surgical Assessments
